Postural background movements

Subtle automatic movements that enable us to shift weight in order to, to sit or stand without falling over. If we cannot generate those small movements, compensatory extraneous refined movements, become necessary. Postural background movements prepare the motor system for refined, isolated voluntary motor activity. For example, we need to stand a certain way to kick a ball effectively.
